We went to see another ballet last evening. This will be Philip's 2nd. Unfortunately he was pretty far away as we had friends with us and he sat clear on the end of the row.
The ballets were Gong which was contemporary ballet and Madame Butterfly which was very dramatic. He said Gong was boring, which I could see.He liked Butterfly but did fess up to missing the last 10 minutes of because he fell asleep! He was laughing about it. He said it wasn't the ballet but the fact that it was so late. Anyway, exposure to dance is good and my husband has been known to snooze during ballets too!
I hope he finds a liking for it because at home in Sweden he has a very fine ballet company to go see...The Swedish National.

Last day at State
Hi Mats and Lena,
Philip did so well at the State competion! He was having so much fun and looked so relaxed! He swam his best times for the year in both races and improved his placing. His relays both placed 4th. Afterwards he came up into the stands and watch the rest of the meet. He seemed happy to have it done. I had missed him. The team had stayed overnight in the hotel where the meet was held and we could only talk to him from the stands. I'm glad he will be back home now!:)
I love watching him interact with his friends. He is such a jokester and seems to have found some good friends on the team in Ian and Brandon. We were so proud of him. We have videod his races and my husband will post them on his facebook page.
I am truely loving your son now and am so greatful you let him come to live with us. I get sad in anticipation of him leaving. But I'm sure you are ready for the months to pass quickly and I can understand that!
Many happy regards,
MAggie

Hi Mats and Lena,
I know you will hear all about it tomorrow from Philip but I wanted to tell you about Philip's first night at State. He looked so relaxed and was very focused. He waved to us before each race and would smile so big. Of course I was screaming my head off "Go Philip!!" so he may have been thinking I was the Crazy-Host-Mom! His relay placed 4th and improvd thier time by 4 seconds. He placed 7th in the 200 IM and took 4 seconds off his previous best time also!! He was also ranked 9th going in so jumped 2 places! He looks great in the water. We are excited for his swims today.
Will update later!

The Laundry
One of the first things I wanted to Philip to make his own was keeping his room clean and doing his laundry. He'll clean his room, if I ask him to directly...no joking about it because then he won't! He'll even clean his bathroom which I refuse to do...I just hate cleaning bathrooms!! But his laundry has been a hold out. He manages to get most of it in a hamper but the other night after my umpteenth load i asked him if he wanted to learn how to do it. Well the look I got said it all but he got up anyway. He separated his darks and I showed him the rest and voila...he was done. I told him his mom/girlfriend would be very impressed. He didn't seem to agree but was laughing about it.
Baby steps!!

Things
I can't believe I haven't written since New Years! I'm am Slacking off!
Arden and Philip have come around with each other finally. She randomly ran to hug him goodbye when he left for a sleepover one night and I think it shocked him. He was not expecting it, nor was I. Usually I have to prod her just to say bye or goodnight. Then a few nights later she asked to help him with his homework. He was drawing an assignment for school and she helped him color it in. It was very sweet and Dennis and I sat back in awe! He helps her with her math, pores her milk at dinner plays video games with her etc.... I thinks she has thawed out towards him. Yea!
He swam at regionals yesterday. He didn't swim his best times. He seemed a bit nervous about missing the bus again(he missed it last week and Dennis had to drive him an hour+ to his meet!) His team doesn't seem focused. I know I am used to college swimming more but it is really relaxed.
Philip never covers up to stay warm. He strutts on the deck in his little speedo. He was talking during the National Anthem and even tho it is not his Anthem, I will mention that he should be respectful. His teammates support each other pretty well but the team seems disfunctional. All these obervances are coming from someone who knows nothing of the sport really!
We are limiting his boarding and having him help more around the house. He and the girls attempted to clean the basement together and did an alright job. He won't clean his room unless I ask. But he knoes he can't board unles it's clean so that rule has helped!!
We still are enjoying him so much. I actually am beginning to plan my summer and looking at dates when he will be joined by his family and off to Sweden. I actually teared up at the thought of it.

New Years
Haven't seen much of Philip the last few days. He's been boarding alot and going out almost as soon as he gets home. He has made some good friends but I miss hanging out. Not many of his friends come to the door to get him so we have to out and meet them. This is such a new phenomenon for us. Kids don't get out of the car to meet parents. I must be so old fashion!
I wish I knew his boarding buddies better. We are trying to give him his teenager space but we really like having him around. The games we got for Christmas we had hoped would get some of his friends here to hang out but nothing so far. We really don't know what teenagers like to do. We continue to learn everyday. I wouldn't trade a day of it.
